There are a lot of different career fields that require equipment expertise. However, this article is going to focus on jobs within the engineering field that require equipment expertise. “Equipment,” as it will be used in this article, refers to heavy machinery such as forklifts, bulldozers, excavators, etc. interesting fact: injuries caused by forklifts constitute 10% of all injuries that happen in warehouses and factories.
1. Agricultural Engineering
One of the first jobs on our list is going to be agricultural engineering. Agricultural engineers or biological engineers cover subjects from aqua culture, land farming, and forestry. They use and develop biofuels, set up animal environments, and find better ways to process our food. They often work in offices, but they also work outdoors traveling to work sites where they oversee equipment function and agricultural settings, such as large tractors, adapted forklifts, etc. agricultural engineers have to have equipment expertise to ensure they have an efficient system.
2. Civil Engineering
Then, of course, there is civil engineering. Civil engineers are specialists in road, bridge, buildings, and water supply systems designs as well as the actual construction. Civil engineers make sure that every structure built complies with the environment, for example, it can withstand earthquakes and/or hurricanes. This also requires that they conduct maintenance or parts replacement procedures as necessary. Civil engineers use all kinds of heavy machinery from bulldozers, two forklifts, two concrete mixers, and more. Civil engineers have to be equipment specialists to succeed in their field.
3. Petroleum Engineering
Petroleum engineering is probably a lesser known branch of engineering. However, that doesn’t make it any less important. Petroleum engineers usually work in labs or offices, but they also have to work on, or at drilling sites, exploration, and production sites. Of course, the big machinery that they must master is the drills that go into the earth and allow us to extract oil. It would be impossible to be a petroleum engineer if you did not possess the proper equipment expertise.
4. Marine Engineering
Marine engineers are in charge of designing and constructing seagoing vessels. Their designs and builds of the structures must be able to withstand wind, waves, and salt exposure. This branch of engineering requires special education and experience. So while the marine engineer might be focused on designing and implementing the heating and cooling systems, and hydraulics for the ship, their comprehension of heavy machinery is less focused on physical use, and more focused on implementation. They must have some sort of equipment expertise or comprehension of the architecture of the structure, and how all that machinery is meant to work together.
5. Geological Engineering
Last but certainly not least, is geological engineer. This branch of engineering involves geology, civil engineering, and other fields that are related such as mining or forestry. Specialty areas include planning for construction sites, groundwater sites etc. They are also responsible for engineering environmental cleanup solutions. A lot of their processes involved for serving land and mapping out designs and hazards requires them to have some sort of background or competence with heavy machinery. Thus it would be very difficult to be a geological engineer and not have some sort of equipment expertise.
